What a treat that my dear friend Iñigo gave me as a Christmas present! A wonderful set of raw images of the Flame Nebula (and Tadpole, which I still have to work on), with master dark and flat files, everything that you need to come up with a great image. And quite a huge integration time as well, the dates that are shown with the filters are not complete, since many nights were taken by Iñigo to gather these 32 hours. Only downfall: the stars with the Baader filters had horrible halos, and really (almost) destroyed the final image.
After he contacted me about this set, I realized that I shot the same area as a wide field with my FRA400, and I took some nice RGB stars of this region as well 😊. After some fights with star alignments (quite a fight due to the different pixel scale) I managed to line them up, and then processed all images from scratch, created a nice starless image from his SHO channels, and reintegrated the nicer stars into it.
I just can say that the 10 minute exposures gave this area a special look, just a great dataset.
But wait ... there will be more soon by Iñigo. He was/is working on the mosaic of the Flame and Tadpole Nebulae, and the preview that he passed looks already tremendous. As soon as he published his image here on AB I will provide a link! And here it is 😊:
